چکیده

Marigold (Tagetes erecta) flowers are a rich source of organic solvents. In this study, lutein was extracted from marigold flowers with enzyme extraction without using organic solvents. Extraction produced oil that contained 0.36 mg/ml lutein (present as lutein esters but calculated as free lutein), and the yield was comparable to solvent extraction. The oil containing lutein was used to produce oil mixtures as stabilizers and some emulsions were also s containing lutein were stored in the dark at 20 monitored during storage. Stability of lutein was good in oil (85 emulsions (77–91%) but slightly worse in spray extraction of lutein from marigold flowers is a potential alternative to solvent extraction with comparable efficiency. In addition, there are no solvent residues in showed good stability of lutein in oil or in emulsions stored in the dark at room temperature, and these preparations could be used in different food products.

Shelf stability of lutein from marigold (Tagetes erecta L.) flowers in vegetable oils

The stability of lutein in sunflower and rice bran oils was investigated in the temperature range 25–40 °C. Experiments were made using a standardized plant extract at 5% by weight of lutein derived from the flowers of Tagetes erecta L. Samples of the pigment in oil were incubated at each temperature for up to 10 days and the time course of degradation was monitored. A kinetic analysis of the d...

Extraction of Lutein Diesters from Tagetes Erecta using Supercritical CO2 and Liquid Propane.

The efficiency of high pressure extraction of lutein diesters from marigold (Tagetes erecta) flower petals has been investigated. The solvents used for extraction were supercritical carbon dioxide and liquid propane. Operating parameters were 300 bar and 40, 60 and 80 °C for CO2 and 100, 150, 200 bar and 40 and 60 °C for propane, respectively. The influence of process parameters on the total yi...

Supercritical Fluid Extraction of Lutein Esters from Marigold Flowers and their Hydrolysis by Improved Saponification and Enzyme Biocatalysis

Lutein is a dietary oxycarotenoid which is found to reduce the risks of Age-related Macular Degeneration (AMD). Supercritical fluid extraction of lutein esters from marigold petals was carried out and was found to be much effective than conventional solvent extraction. The saponification of pre-concentrated lutein esters to produce free lutein was studied which showed a composition of about 88%...
